A WellVision exam every 12 months that checks your vision and the health of your eyes.
One $25 copay covers your lenses, and the frame is paid up to your allowance.
Good to know: progressive lenses have a $50 copay, and add-ons like anti-glare have set copays. See the table below.
Choose contacts instead of glasses, and the plan pays toward the lenses and the fitting.
Good to know: contacts replace your glasses benefit for that period. If you use the contacts allowance, covered glasses wait until you're eligible again 12 months later.
Savings that aren't insurance benefits, but lower what you pay.
Examples at a VSP network doctor, per person. Frame and contact lens prices are examples; actual prices vary by doctor and what you choose.
Your WellVision exam, with no glasses or contacts this time.
Single vision lenses and a frame within your allowance.
The frame costs $60 more than your $200 allowance, and you get 20% off that amount.
A year of contacts plus the fitting, after 15% off the fitting.
Covered glasses then wait until you're eligible again.

Out-of-network amounts are from NCD's vision plan page; the brochure lists in-network benefits only. Out of network, you pay the doctor and are reimbursed up to these amounts.

You can get an eye exam and new lenses every 12 months, and a new frame every 24 months. Contacts are every 12 months, instead of glasses.
The plan covers one or the other. If you use the $150 contacts allowance, you can use your contacts or lens benefit again after 12 months, and your frame benefit after 12 months. You can still buy extra glasses or sunglasses at 20% off from a VSP doctor within 12 months of your last exam.
Yes, but you'll get the most at a VSP network doctor, where you pay only the copays and anything over your allowance. VSP has more than 34,000 network doctors. At another eye doctor, you pay the bill and are reimbursed up to set amounts, like $45 for the exam. Find a VSP doctor.
Yes. Progressive lenses (standard, premium, or custom) have a $50 copay at a VSP doctor. Out of network, you're reimbursed up to $50.
VSP doctors carry certain frame brands that come with an extra $20 to spend, so your allowance is $220 instead of $200. The brands change over time, so ask your doctor or check your benefits at vsp.com.
It's not a covered benefit, but you get a discount: about 15% off the regular price, or 5% off a promotional price, at VSP's contracted laser surgery facilities.
The plan is offered to members of the National Wellness & Fitness Association, and the membership fee is included in your monthly price. Membership also includes discounts on health, travel, and everyday services. These perks aren't insurance.
Yes. NCD also offers dental plans by MetLife. Compare them in my guides: Complete, Essentials & Value, Bright, and Elite.

I'm Hamon R. Burkhardt, a licensed Health & Life insurance broker. I'll confirm the price for your family, check that your eye doctor is in the VSP network, and help you pair it with a dental plan if you want one. No pressure, no fine print.
An allowance is the most the plan pays toward an item. For frames, you pay anything over $200 ($220 on featured brands), less 20% at a VSP doctor. For contacts, the $150 allowance covers the lenses and the contact lens exam together; you pay the rest.
Copays are per covered person, per office visit: $20 for the exam and $25 for glasses (lenses and frame), every 12 months. There's no deductible. Progressive lenses and lens enhancements have their own copays, listed in the table.
This guide summarizes NCD's April 2026 brochure for the VSP Preferred Plan by NCD, with out-of-network amounts from NCD's vision plan page. The plan is underwritten by VSP Vision Care and offered to members of the National Wellness & Fitness Association. It was prepared by Hamon R. Burkhardt, licensed Health & Life insurance broker (NPN 16713594), and is not an official NCD or VSP document. It is not a contract. The plan documents decide what is covered.
