  • Copay Plan 1: $50 for cleanings, fillings, and oral surgery; $250 for crowns and root canals
  • Copay Plan 2: $0 cleanings, no waiting period, and no yearly maximum

Common questions

Questions people ask

Straight answers about how Select Dental PPO works. Tap a question to open it.

What's the difference between coinsurance and copay plans?

On Value, Plus, and Prime, you pay a $50 deductible, then the plan pays a percentage of each bill. On the copay plans, there's no deductible: you pay a flat amount per visit or procedure at an in-network dentist, and the plan covers the rest of the negotiated price.

Is there a waiting period?

No, except one: Copay Plan 1 has a 6-month wait for major services. Everything else, on every plan, is covered from your first day.

Why does major work pay so little the first year?

The coinsurance plans reward staying on the plan. Plus pays 15% for major services in year 1 and 25% after. Prime pays 25%, then 50%. Fillings step up from 60% to 80%, and yearly maximums grow in years 2 and 3. If you need a crown soon, Copay Plan 2 may cost less in year 1.

Can I see any dentist?

Yes, but you'll pay less in the Aetna Dental Administrators network. Out of network, the coinsurance plans pay lower percentages, and on the copay plans you pay the copay plus anything above the plan's allowed amount. In some states, including Texas and Mississippi, there's no difference in what you pay out of network. Find an Aetna dentist.

Does any plan cover braces?

Prime covers orthodontics for children under 19: 15% the first year, then 50%, up to $1,000. Adult braces aren't covered on any plan.

Are implants covered?

No. Implants and implant removal aren't covered on any Select Dental PPO plan. Teeth whitening and cosmetic work aren't covered either.

Can I replace a tooth I lost before the plan started?

Not until you've been on the plan for 24 months. The same 24-month rule applies to replacing dentures that are less than 10 years old.

Can I cover my children?

Yes. Plans cover individuals and families ages 0 to 64, and child-only plans are available. Fluoride treatments are for children under 18, and orthodontics on Prime is for children under 19.

How do I use it?

Show your ID card at an in-network dentist to get the network price and benefits. You can find your ID card and plan documents in the Allstate Health Solutions member portal. Here's my step-by-step portal guide.

How long can I keep it?

The plan is renewable until age 65, as long as you pay your premium and live in a state where it's offered.

Does this count as ACA dental coverage for my child?

No. These plans don't meet the ACA's pediatric dental requirement. If you need that, I can help you find a plan through the marketplace.

Questions? Let's talk
