Setting up your UnitedHealthcare ACA plan account

If you have a UnitedHealthcare Individual & Family ACA Marketplace plan, your online account is where you pay your premium, see your ID card, find in-network doctors and track your claims. Setting it up takes about ten minutes.

Go to myuhc.com/exchange →
Have a UnitedHealthcare plan from Golden Rule or Chesapeake instead? Supplemental and short term plans, like Hospital SafeGuard or Short Term Medical, are billed through a different website, the UnitedHealthcare Member Hub. Follow my Member Hub setup guide for those. If you have both kinds of plans, you'll set up both.

Before you start

Paid your first premium yet? Your coverage starts only after UnitedHealthcare receives your first payment, and your welcome kit and ID card usually arrive within 10 days of it. If your coverage hasn't started yet, setting up this account (or the UnitedHealthcare app) is the way to make that first payment.
You'll see the name HealthSafe ID®. That's the secure sign-in UnitedHealthcare uses for its member websites. Seeing it means you're in the right place.

The six steps

  1. Open the sign-up page

Go to myuhc.com/exchange and select Register.

  2. Tell UnitedHealthcare who you are

Enter your first name, last name and date of birth (mm/dd/yyyy). Leave the identification type on Member ID, type your member ID exactly as it's printed, and select Continue.

  3. Create your username and password

Pick a username and a strong password. Write them down somewhere safe.

  4. Set up account recovery

Choose how you'd like to get back into your account if you ever forget your username or password.

  5. Confirm your email or phone

Agree to the terms of use and privacy policy. UnitedHealthcare then sends a verification code by email or text. Enter it to finish creating your HealthSafe ID.

  6. You're in

Your account opens. If your first premium is still due, pay it now. Then save your digital ID card.

Setting up on your phone instead?
  1. Search for UnitedHealthcare in the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android), then download and open the app.
  2. Choose to register, and follow the same steps as above: your name, date of birth and member ID, then your username, password and verification code.

Already set up on the website? Sign in to the app with the same username and password. You don't need a second account.

Three things to do next

What you can do once you're registered

  • View, download or print your ID card
  • Pay your premium or set up autopay
  • Find in-network doctors, hospitals and pharmacies
  • Check what your prescriptions cost
  • Track your deductible and out-of-pocket spending
  • Review your claims and explanations of benefits (EOBs)
  • See your plan's benefits and documents
  • Update your contact preferences

Lost your card?Use the digital card in your account or the app, or call the Member Services number on your plan materials.

If something doesn't work

UnitedHealthcare can't find your planEnter your name and date of birth exactly as they appear on your plan, and your member ID exactly as it's printed. If you enrolled in the last few days, your plan may not be set up yet. Try again in a day or two, or call me.
The verification code never cameCheck your spam or junk folder, or try the text message option. Make sure your email address and phone number are typed correctly.
You already have a HealthSafe IDIf you've used another UnitedHealthcare website before, sign in with that username and password instead of registering again.
Forgot your username or passwordUse the forgot username or password link on the sign-in screen. Your account recovery choice from step 4 gets you back in.
Need help with the websiteUse the chat button on the sign-in page, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central, seven days a week.
You moved, or your income or household changedThose changes go through the Marketplace where you enrolled, not through UnitedHealthcare. Call me and I'll update it for you.
